King Of Change wins the Fortune Stakes at Sandown

Richard Hannon’s 2000 Guineas runner-up King Of Change returned to Acquire at Against the Chasemore Farm Fortune Stakes.

While many might have been tempted to hit while the iron was popular using King Of Change (11-4), who was shipped off in 66-1 for the Classic, Hannon chose the patient approach.

“We are pleased, he has been working very well and it is nice to see that he run a huge race,” said Hannon.
“He’ll have needed that, he has been off a while so it was gratifying.
“He has several nice entries and they’re all chances at the moment. He’ll appreciate a bit of give in the floor and next year will be his season.
“We’ve an original horse to go in the autumn with. It was fine for him to prove the Guineas moment wasn’t a fluke.”
Palace Pier remained unbeaten, because his odds of 1-8 suggested he must, at the Max Patel Wealth Manager.
Frankie Dettori wished to keep things simple on John Gosden’s colt and Palace Pier pulled four and a half lengths clear, while Mars Landing briefly threatened to make a rush of it.
Dettori told Racing TV:”He was lively today. He was glancing around at the stalls and then I needed to produce the running and that he looked at all, but that’s why we brought him here – for experience.
“We did not wish to throw him in at the deep end yet, but he has learnt a bit more now and he can be better next time.
“He’s a great horse right now, but when he’s special, I don’t understand yet. That which is in the right location, but he’s still a work in progress”
Dettori and Gosden later made it a treble when reliving Rhythms (5-2 favorite ) got going late to win at the Stelrad Radiator Group Fillies’ Handicap and Sucellus (100-30) was a narrow winner of this Christmas Parties At Sandown Park Handicap.
Following that he made a debut in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes oisin Murphy spoke highly of Via De Vega.
Second looked however Via De Vega began to fly, on meeting the rising ground.
The shot poked to win by a mind and has been gaining with every stride.
“The boss actually liked him at home. I had not stumbled on him before today, but it was about a great education so it’s brilliant he was great enough to win,” said Murphy.
“He jumped a little slow and that I was only hoping to teach him. At the base of the right, I didn’t believe so that I do my very best I could win, however I wasn’t going to give him a hard time.
“He picked up really well all the way into the line and that I guess it was an eyecatching performance. I’m very enthusiastic about him. All these are the horses that force you to escape bed in the morning”
